Legislative Advocacy & Texas Technology Week

The MTBC hosted Texas Technology Week along with AeA Texas Council, TechNet Texas, Texas Healthcare and Bioscience Instititute, Texas Coalition for Capital and the Texas Association of Business.

Tech Week was Feb. 17 & 18 in Austin.  There was a reception with state legislators and a Tech Demo area, a briefing breakfast, visits to the elected officials and much more. 

The Legislative Priorities for the 81st Session of the Texas Legislature are listed below. 

  • Pass a new sales tax exemption on the purchase of R&D equipment in Texas
  • Pass a re-enactment of an R&D tax credit against the Texas "gross margins" tax
  • Pass re-funding of the Texas Emerging Technology Fund, and changes to the legislation to provide for more resources for effective portfolion management of the state's investments in emerging technology companies
  • Support state funding to create more tier-one research universities in Texas
  • Support the recommendations of the Governor's Competitiveness Council.
