The RFID-related companies in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, area have joined with local universities, civic groups, industry associations and the investment community to accelerate the RFID business momentum already established in DFW and brand the area "Dallas-Fort Worth: The RFID Hub."

This initiative is a project of the RFID Special Interest Group (RFID SIG) of the Metroplex Technology Business Council (MTBC). The MTBC and the RFID SIG formally launched "Dallas-Fort Worth: The RFID Hub" on Feb. 28, 2006, at RFID World.

The RFID Hub Poster
As part of the RFID branding initiative, the MTBC has published a full color, 20x30 inch poster that dramatically illustrates the diversity and depth of the RFID ecosystem in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The poster highlights various components of the RFID ecosystem from software and hardware to system integrators and institutions of higher education.

The RFID SIG
The RFID Special Interest Group is comprised of MTBC member companies that specialize in RFID technology from the more than 100 that have operations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. These companies deliver the entire RFID value chain — from chips, tags, hardware and software, through service providers such as implementers, integrators and logistics specialists, to manufacturers, distribution centers, retailers and other end users. Dallas-based Texas Instruments, with a 20-year history in RFID, is adding manufacturing capacity in the area to produce billions of RFID components per year. Major retailers such as Wal-Mart and Target chose Dallas-Fort Worth to begin deploying RFID in their supply chains. The largest RFID conference and tradeshow in the United States, RFID World, was held in the area in 2005 and 2006. The conference and tradeshow return to Dallas-Fort Worth in 2007.
