MTBC Unveils RFID Hub Identity To Position North Texas As Global Leader in RFID Technology

DALLAS (March 1, 2006) -- Representatives of the Metroplex Technology Business Council (MTBC), the largest technology association in Texas, today announced their commitment to global leadership in the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) industry with the unveiling of a new RFID Hub identity for the region.  The new identity and logo, introduced by the RFID Special Interest Group of the MTBC at the 4th Annual RFID World Conference, emphasizes the regional commitment to the RFID industry, as well as the depth and breadth of the existing RFID ecosystem in North Texas.

“We are creating an additional identity for our region, the RFID Hub, so the international business community recognizes that North Texas is a global center of RFID excellence,” said Bill Sproull, president and CEO of the MTBC.  “This new RFID Hub identity underscores our region’s critical role in establishing and growing leading technological sectors that facilitate commerce worldwide and, in particular, our strength in RFID and other wireless technology.”

MTBC leaders emphasized that the new RFID Hub moniker is just part of the region’s continued, overall commitment to leadership in the technology industry, including sectors such as semiconductor production, telecommunications, software development, computer services and nanotechnology.

“The roll-out of the RFID Hub identity furthers our goal of introducing the local RFID industry to the world,” said Charles Humphreyson, CEO of The Prova Group and tri-chair of the MTBC RFID Steering Committee.  “We are excited about this strategic announcement, which works in tandem with our positioning as a leader in other technological sectors to make the Dallas/Fort Worth region an even more attractive place for forward-thinking, global companies.”

Central to the positioning effort is the production of a new poster that dramatically illustrates the local RFID ecosystem.  Featuring the image of an RFID chip embedded over a map of Texas, the poster highlights various components of the ecosystem, from software and hardware to system integrators and institutions of higher education.  The poster includes a list of sponsoring DFW companies on its lower portion, as well as the new RFID Hub logo, which features elements of the Texas state flag along with the words “the RFID Hub – Dallas Ft. Worth.”

The MTBC introduced the RFID Hub identifier at the RFID World Conference at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Tex.  More than 5,000 industry engineers, software developers and executives were expected to attend the conference, held from Feb. 27 – Mar. 1, 2006.  RFID World is the only event in North America where industry leaders gather to discuss comprehensive information about RFID technology, applications and solutions from the leading suppliers of tags, readers, software and integrated solutions.  This is the second RFID World Conference to be held in the Metroplex.
