MTBC Develops DFW High Tech Report Card
The MTBC has researched and developed a set of comparative metrics as a way to measure the strength of the high-tech sector in the Metroplex. These metrics will be used as a benchmark to track the progress of the high-tech sector in DFW as well as allow us to “tell the story” about this segment of our economy.
These metrics involve many areas of the high-tech sector including venture capital investments, number of patents, SBIR/SBTT funding and quality of life issues. These findings illustrate some surprising revelations on the current state of the high-tech sector. The numbers indicate that 52% of the state’s high-tech workforce resides in the Metroplex. In addition, the number of patents issued to DFW companies and individuals ranked the Metroplex 2nd in the nation for the number of patents awarded. This placed us ahead of the Boston/Route 128 area but behind the Silicon Valley. As well, in 2005 high-tech sector sales were estimated at $7 billion. This accounted for nearly 2.2% of sales in DFW for 2005. Download a copy of the high-tech metric report here or contact Manuel Tellez at 972-792-2814.
