Scott Walker, CEO of Billmatrix, the 2006 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year®, will be the keynote speaker at MTBC’s special Entrepreneurship Week USA event on Friday, March 2, at The Richardson Hotel [Watch for more information on this exciting event at www.metroplextbc.org.] Walker, a visionary entrepreneur, speaks often to audiences and likes to roll out his city-map size chart with the 800 steps to building a successful company. In June 2006, he received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the services category for the Southwest region. The award recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs who are building and leading dynamic and growing businesses. Billmatrix, a finalist in the 2006 Tech Titans Awards, developed the software packages that handle the billing for Verizon and TXU. With the company’s software, consumers, customer service representatives and other third-party agents are able to make payments via hosted Internet and telephone systems using credit cards, ATM debit cards and electronic check payment options. EntrepreneurshipWeek USA, taking place February 24 to March 3, 2007, involves hundreds of organizations providing events and activities in communities across the country to inspire, educate and prepare young people, primarily ages 14 to 25, to be America’s next great entrepreneurs and innovators. With the theme “What’s Your Big Idea? Take it On!,” the initiative is designed to serve as an inspiration for young people to think creatively and to turn their ideas into action – whether that means starting a new business, developing an innovation for an existing company or solving a problem that makes society better. EntrepreneurshipWeek USA is being sponsored by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and by government, not-for-profit organizations and businesses, including the The New York Times and Inc. magazine. DID YOU KNOW? In the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex 26 people out of every 100,000 is an entrepreneur. Among the most populous states, Texas had a relatively high rate of entrepreneurial activity in 2005 at 480 per 100,000 adults.
