MTBC Hosts 2007 National SBIR/STTR Conference


The State of Texas and technology organizations from across the state, including the Metroplex Technology Business Council, will play host to the 2007 Fall National SBIR/STTR Conference on October 29-November 1, at the Renaissance Hotel and the Charles Eisemann Center for the Performing Arts and Corporate Presentations in Richardson, Texas. 

William Sproull, CEO of the MTBC serves as chairman of the statewide advisory group which is planning the conference.

Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants are administered through the U.S. Department of Commerce Small Business Administration.  Over $2 billion in research grants have been awarded to technology businesses.  Both SBIR and STTR recipients must have less than 500 employees and may receive grants of up to $100,000 for Phase I and up to $750,000 for Phase II.

The conference will give attendees a comprehensive overview on how to apply for and win government SBIR and STTR grants.   It will also provide networking opportunities for small technology business owners, government officials, and top industry leaders.  For registration and all program information, go to www.sbirtexas.com

Participants will include:

  • Senior-level SBIR and STTR representatives from the Federal Agencies involved in the programs including the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense (Army, Navy, Air Force, DARPA, SOCOM), Education, Energy, Health and Human Services (NIH, CDC, FDA), Homeland Security, Transportation, Environmental Protection, NASA, and the National Science Foundation
  • State and local elected officials (Governor Rick Perry and Secretary of State Phil Wilson will be among several keynote speakers)
  • University researchers
  • Small technology company owners and entrepreneurs seeking to secure federal research funding
  • Scientists seeking commercialization strategies
  • Venture capitalists

Exhibits
There will be abundant opportunities to interact and explore partnerships with Federal Program Representatives and state support services exhibiting at the conference, as well as with companies and research centers which are current or former SBIR grant recipients.
