JETRO Provides Forum on Information Technology & Communications (ICT) Business Opportunities in Japan

Noted Silicon Valley business advisor Makoto Abe discusses Information Technology & Communications business opportunities in Japan with a select group of DFW tech companies.

MTBC co-sponsored JETRO’s “ICT Dynamics in Japan” conference at the Petroleum Club in downtown Dallas on September 26. Two dozen select corporate invitees  with interest in the Japanese market received key business facts and insightful remarks from Makoto Abe of Japan Business Solutions. Also, Jay Kendry, Vice President for MTBC-member Entrust, Inc. spoke at length about his company’s experience in establishing a presence in Japan. Entrust currently has a 17-person staff there.

Some of Abe’s key points were 1) The Japanese ICT market is about a $100 billion business with  $40 billion going to hardware, $20 billion to software and $40 billion to ICT services; 2)  Biggest growth areas for the next four years include IP broadcasting, Video-on-Demand, blog software, mobile e-commerce and content; 3) Areas of interest include wireless 802.11n LAN, 802.16 Fixed WiMAX and 802.16e Mobile WiMAX, all forms of network security, support for Japan’s version of Sarbanes-Oxley (J-SOX) which takes effect in 2008, SaaS (Software as a Service), and RFID; 4) technology products which do well in Japan are advanced, unique, dependable, flexible, scalable, compatible, adaptable, have a cost advantage, easy-to-use, customizable and have a Japanese interface.

Conference sponsor JETRO, the Japan External Trade Organization, provides U.S. companies with business opportunities in Japan. For example, JETRO’s “Trade Tie-up Promotion Program” (TTPP) is a web-based service (www.jetro.go.jp/ttppe/) that connects U.S. companies with Japanese buyers and business partners. In December, JETRO will host an expense-paid trade mission to Osaka and Yokohama for select ICT companies.  Any MTBC members interested in attending can contact the MTBC’s John Jacobs at john@metroplextbc.org.
