Winners Announced at 7th Annual Tech Titans Awards

The Metroplex Technology Business Council (MTBC), the largest technology trade association in Texas, recently announced the winners of its seventh annual Tech Titans Awards competition.

The following individuals and organizations were honored during the Tech Titans and Titan Fast 50 Awards gala event at the InterContinental Dallas Hotel on Saturday, September 29, 2007:

CORPORATE CEO AWARD

Recognizes CEO leadership of companies within the technology and communications industry with more than 100 employees.

Winner: Rashid Skaf, President & CEO, AMX

EMERGING COMPANY CEO AWARD

Recognizes CEO leadership for an emerging company within the technology and communications industry with fewer than 100 employees.

Winner: Douglas J. Bartek, President, CEO & Co-Founder, Tango Networks

CORPORATE HORIZON AWARD

Recognizes outstanding innovation and unique accomplishments through recent or potential breakthrough technology or approach within the technology and communications industry; company must have more than 100 employees.

Winner: Nortel – 4G Business & Ecosystem Development, Carrier Networks

EMERGING COMPANY HORIZON AWARD

Recognizes outstanding innovation and unique accomplishments through potential breakthrough technology, processes or services within the technology and communications industry; company must have fewer than 100 employees.

Winner: Oryon Technologies

INNOVATOR AWARD (NEW FOR 2007)

Recognizes the pioneering efforts of a person, team or organization that has created breakthrough ideas, processes or products in the disciplines of arts, education, electronics, energy, environment, medicine or science.

Winner: David Hanson, Hanson Robotics, Inc.

TECHNOLOGY ADOPTER

Recognizes a company whose core business is not technology products/services for outstanding adoption and application of innovative technologies to successfully change and impact its business results.

Winner: Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport

TECHNOLOGY ADVOCATE

Recognizes a technology service provider for outstanding leadership in the community by assisting, enabling or accelerating the performance of its technology clients.

Winner: Silicon Valley Bank

COMMUNITY HERO AWARD

Recognizes an individual or company within the technology industry for outstanding achievements in community involvement.

Winner: Tegwin Pulley, Vice President, Workforce, Diversity & WorkLife Strategies, Texas Instruments

TECH TITAN OF THE FUTURE AWARD – HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL

Recognizes a high school math or science teacher for development and implementation of an innovative teaching technique or program that inspires student interest in math and/or science.

Winner: Barbara Flickinger, J.J. Pearce High School, Richardson ISD

TECH TITAN OF THE FUTURE AWARD - UNIVERSITY LEVEL

Recognizes an educational program at the university level that is designed to address the gap in the student pipeline in technology disciplines, and/or an educational program between technology businesses and educational institutions whose purpose is to provide qualified graduates to the technology industry.

Winner: Arts and Technology, University of Texas at Dallas

AeA TEXAS LEGENDS AWARD (NEW FOR 2007)

AeA Texas Council has chosen the MTBC’s Tech Titans Awards as a platform for handing out the AeA Texas Legend Award, an honor that recognizes a company, person or group that has made a major contribution to the advancement of technology.

Winner: Gene Frantz, Texas Instruments

The Tech Titans Awards were launched in 2001 by the Metroplex Technology Business Council, North Texas’ most comprehensive organization supporting technology. The prestigious annual contest recognizes outstanding technology companies and individuals in the North Texas area who have made contributions during the past year locally, as well as to the technology industry overall.
