This issue home | Past issues | MTBC home Completing his three year term as MTBC's Chairman of the Board, Rusty Cone, we look back at what the MTBC has accomplished since 2006. In 2006, Cone set long terms goals including talent development, higher education research and commercialization activities that support the technology industry, building greater national and global recognition of the region as an enviable place for technology companies and talent. The 2006 Board of Directors saught to guide the organization to its "Higher Calling" with task forces that included talent development, innovation, and advocacy and branding. In 2006, we found MTBC member, Richland College accepting the 2005 Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award; MTBC hosted the RFID panel at IT seminar at ITEC; state awarded $6 million in Emerging Tech Funds; and MTBC kicked off it's Total Resource Campaign. Our 2006 luncheons included topics such as "Doing Business in China", "Adopting RFID", "Kodak's Digital Transformation", and "The Past, Present, and Future of Travel" In 2007 MTBC's event successes included the TechLinks Golf Tournament, the Tech Titans Awards Gala, and the regular networking luncheons. UTD opened it's Natural Science and Engineering Research Laboratory, MTBC hosted the National SBIR/STTR Conference, and the MTBC helped promote the STEM program for students across the metroplex. The Innovation team co-hosted the World's Best Technology Conference and supported the efforts of UTD and UTA in their efforts to enhance the transfer of intellectual property into the marketplace. It was Cone's idea to start the MTBC Tech Links Golf Tournament to help raise additional funds for the Tech Titans of the Future and give members a fun networking activity to enjoy. This year has been quite busy around the MTBC as we've listened to the experiences of a female private space explorer, CIOs from Texas Instruments and BNSF, a young Wikipedia initiator, among many other technology industry innovators. STARTech celebrated 10 years, Innovation team launched TechQuest, and September 26th was announced as the first annual Technology Day in the metroplex. Cone's efforts and leadership will not go unappreciated. Through his leadership at the MTBC, we've accomplished a lot and he did all this while still maintaining his position as President of Alliance Data Systems and now as SVP of Operations at NEI. He has over 20 years of experience in high-tech manufacturing and quality process management, he is responsible for engineering and development as well as supply chain, manufacturing and global technical support services. Previously, he served as Vice President of M&S Systems, a nationally recognized consumer electronics manufacturer. In addition, he held management positions at Texas Instruments and Marlow Industries, a winner of the 1991 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. He holds a BS degree in Naval Science from the U.S. Naval Academy. Thank you, Rusty! From your friends and collegues at the MTBC.
