Tech Prep is Seeking MTBC Business Partners to
Host an Educator June 15-18
The North Central Texas Tech Prep Consortium is seeking MTBC member companies that would be willing to host an educator on June 15-18, 2009, as part of the Summer Extern for Educators Program.
Tech Prep, hosted by the Dallas County Community College District, is a federal education initiative established for the development of secondary and post-secondary education and business and industry linkages that emphasize academic and technical proficiency that prepare students for high wage, high skill, high demand occupations.
The legislation is in response to advances in technology that have changed the workplace in a dramatic way. Students graduating from high school need more technical skills to be competitive in the job market. Up to 85% of all jobs will require at least two years of education beyond high school.

Technology business partners are needed in the following areas:
Ad Design/Visual Communications
Architectural Design
Business Computer Information Systems
Computer Maintenance
Engineering/Aeronautics
Law Firms
The main objective for Tech Prep business partners is to provide educators knowledge of:
- Structure of the organization
- Profile of work-employment skills, training needs, opportunities, professional development
- Competencies, skills and attitudes needed by employees
- Specific academic applications (i.e., where math, science, communication are used)
- Challenges facing the industry
- Worker benefits
- Work ethics, teamwork, professionalism
