This issue home | Past issues | MTBC home Engineering as a Sport The Coliseum at the University of North Texas (UNT) thunders with the roar of thousands of spectators and the cacophony of bands. Cheerleaders urge their fans to ever increasing frenzy as the timer counts the final seconds of competition. The level of emotion spikes as the buzzer wails. You consciously register that there could be no more exciting event than that you’ve just witnessed. Basketball? Indoor volleyball? Wrestling? Nope – this is engineering at its finest. This is BEST Robotics.
Representatives from the MTBC have been actively lobbying the legislature. Many participated in Texas Technology Week in Austin in late February. They attended a reception and dinner hosted by MTBC and TechAmerica (formerly AeA). Several tech companies had displays at the reception that allowed elected officials and their staff see some of the newest technology being developed in Texas. There was also a briefing breakfast with a group presentation by Senator Florence Shapiro, Representatives Mark Strama and Tan Parker. Shapiro is the Chair of the Senate Education Committee. Strama is the Chairman of the Technology, Economic Development and Workforce Committee and Parker is the Vice Chair. Delegates also had an opportunity to visit with individual elected officials and their staff to promote the MTBC’s Legislative Priorities.
