This issue home | Past issues | MTBC home TechQuest IV to Feature Alcatel-Lucent The fourth edition of MTBC’s TechQuest program stars Alcatel-Lucent (see corporate profile below) in a search for innovative applications and services that will thrive in the next-generation of mobile communications technology. As 4G (Fourth Generation Wireless Networks) and LTE (Long Term Evolution) wireless broadband technologies are implemented in the coming years, the bandwidth of mobile uplinks and downlinks as well as data latency parameters promise to be much improved over currently available 3G services. That creates an opportunity for new and improved applications and services.
We may be in the midst of the worst recession since the Great Depression but you wouldn’t have known that on Friday, August 28th! The Metroplex Technology Business Council (MTBC) hosted the 9th annual Tech Titans/Fast Tech Awards Gala that evening at the Renaissance Hotel – Dallas - Richardson. Over 700 high-tech business and community leaders turned out to celebrate the accomplishments of the North Texas technology industry as over 20 awards were presented for excellence in their fields. Tech Titans was started by the MTBC in 2001 to recognize and honor the past successes and bright future of the more than 4,000 technology companies located in North Texas. It is held annually and attracts hundreds of technologists from across the Metroplex. The awards range from corporate awards for both emerging and established corporations to awards for non-tech companies that advocate and adopt high-tech practices. An individual award is also presented for community leadership within the tech industry. Don't Believe the Rumors - Software-Based Inventions are Still Patentable The United States Supreme Court has expressly recognized that software-based inventions are patentable subject matter. The Federal Circuit, however, has recently imposed certain claim structure requirements to ensure that patent claims properly recite a software-based invention in a manner that is deemed patentable subject matter. Despite this recent development and contrary to some misperceptions in the industry, software-based inventions remain patentable under current United States law.
InnerWireless Secures Substantial Contract with GSA The MTBC gives regards to member company InnerWireless for earning a commission with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA).
