Samsung Electronics Seeks Disruptive Technologies
MTBC Launches TechQuest for Global Technology Leader

The popular MTBC program that matches the future technology needs  of large corporations with innovative solutions provided by small tech companies, universities and technology entrepreneurs is now in its 5th edition with one of the world’s great technology companies, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. , headquartered in Seoul, South Korea.

Samsung Electronics is the $117 billion (sales), 164,600-employee parent company of Samsung Telecommunications America, L.P. located in North Texas (Richardson). The local operation will coordinate the TechQuest search with other business units in Korea. At the culmination of the Samsung TechQuest in June, strategic planning and R&D personnel from Korea will join their colleagues in Richardson for face-to-face meetings with innovative companies and organizations selected through the TechQuest process.

The Samsung TechQuest, launched April 12,  covers a wide-range of technologies – basically any hardware and/or software innovations that provide a truly disruptive, game-changing technology. It’s not necessary, in fact it is preferable, that the technology not be already commercially available. Innovations which will be ready for the marketplace within several years or more is what Samsung is seeking.

Here are the technology areas in which Samsung is particularly interested:

  • Software & hardware innovations for next generation consumer electronics; intelligent assistance, novel & intuitive user interface, context-awareness, acoustics, real 3D, etc.
  • Green & eco-friendly environment; high-efficient low-power solutions, energy harvesting, smart grid, eco-friendly materials, etc.
  • Healthy & safe living; ubiquitous healthcare solutions, intelligent home appliances, privacy & security solutions, etc.
  • Next generation communications infrastructure; advanced RF, multimode multiband solutions, cloud computing, contents & service convergence, M2M, sensor networks, etc.

The ultimate objective of TechQuest is to encourage, reward and enrich innovative companies in North Texas, and by partnering with a large company, an innovator can get the crucial business support it takes to succeed. The partnership can take many forms – customer/supplier relationship, distribution channel partnership, joint technology development contract, equity investment or a technology licensing agreement. Of them all, the latter may be the one best suited to Samsung.

The Samsung TechQuest was launched on April 12, and all Applications must be in by June 4.  It’s best to submit an Application well before the deadline, since it will receive greater attention from the review team and allow time for clarification of any unclear points. To make an Application go to http://metroplextbc.org/Events/Tech-Quest-Program/Samsung-TechQuest.aspx and click on the link at the bottom of the page.
MTBC initiated the TechQuest program in 2008 and has featured innovation seekers Texas Instruments, Tektronix, Raytheon and Alcatel-Lucent.
